What are Lessons With Dylan Like?
Lessons with me are rooted in the Suzuki method, with a strong emphasis on listening as a foundational part of learning—whether that listening comes from classical recordings or folk traditions. I teach both cello and fiddle across classical and folk genres, using Suzuki books as a core structure while supplementing with standard classical repertoire to build solid technique. At the same time, I’m highly flexible and love incorporating folk styles such as Irish, Scottish, and old-time music when students are interested. For younger students, I strongly encourage parents to attend every lesson, creating a supportive triangle between student, parent, and teacher—since real progress happens at home during the week. I also teach groove-based cello playing, focusing on rhythm and accompaniment for backing up singers, dancers, and fiddle players. Above all, I believe music is a powerful way to build community, and I strive to help students connect with one another, collaborate, and find a sense of belonging through making music together.
